All New Platinum Etios from Toyota

Etios twins have been a good success story for Toyota in India. Launched first in December 2010, Etios sedan and Liva hatchback have sold more than 3.3 lakh units so far and counting. Over years Etios twins did receive a few facelifts and Toyota has given an overhaul by launching the new Platinum Etios.

The new Platinum Etios scores big time on all key aspects- Safety, Comfort and Quality

Safety: In the entry level sedan segment, the all new Platinum Etios faces stiff competition from its rivals but Toyota has taken couple of bold decisions w.r.t Platinum Etios that makes it stand apart. Let us review a few of them

Dual Airbags and ABS standard across all variants of new Platinum Etios- Rival brands only offer Airbag & ABS in their expensive trips, or as optional extra, depriving the cheaper variants from these critical safety equipment in an attempt to keep costs low. Customers who end up buying these cheaper variants risk their own safety on the road.  No wonder the new platinum Etios has secured 4 star rating in GNCAP crash testing. (Global NCAP rates passenger cars for its safety quotient- in its recent testing, few budget cars sold in India got as low as 1 star rating, putting serious doubts on their structural integrity and ability to offer safety to occupants. Etios has come out with flying colours with 4/5 rating, the highest in its class.

Comfort and Looks
New look front grill- Probably taking a cue from bigger cousin Innova, Etios’s front V shaped grill gets a drop in the centre, with chrome surrounds further enhancing the smiley appeal.
Etios scores big on comfort as well. Interior gets dual tone black + ivory dashboard, Optitron instrument cluster (centre mounted as earlier), child safety locks, foldable rear seats with armrest and many more.

I have driven the previous versions of Etios Sedan- both petrol and diesel- they were excellent companions during our road trips. If driven well, Etios can give excellent fuel economy (High fuel economy and reliability are some of the main reasons why it is popular with taxi market)

Quality:
Toyota cars are known for their quality and durability. Innovas are known to run smoothly even after several lakh kms on the odo- main reason why it sells many times the competition and commands high resale value. Etios twins are also set on the same principles and offer excellent value for money and durability. Etios is recently awarded most dependable sedan in its segment by JD Power

So this festive season, if you are looking for a new set of wheels, head to your nearest Toyota showroom. Here’s wishing the Platinum Etios all the best.

2020 update: Feels Toyota is spending more time recycling Maruti cars than introducing new models in India.
