Undavalli Caves, Vijayawada

Undavalli caves is a nice spot to visit on the outskirts of Vijayawada. Believed to be of 4th century, the cave structures are scattered all around the hill, but the main one, pictured below, is a four level single rock carving forms the main unit.

 A statue of reclining Vishnu is located in level 3
 
Many Hindu gods are carved inside.

The Undavalli cave campus includes some green area, good for relaxing for a while. Overall, Undavalli well qualifies for a place in Top 10 places to visit in Vijayawada.

Travel information:
From Vijayawada bus station, Bus no 301Metro Express, bound for Amaravati will pass through Undavalli caves and a stop is offered on request (Rs 11 per person). Else you can negotiate a taxi/auto to take you to Undavalli, wait for sometime there and take you back. Bus will be more convenient.

Ticket Fee: Rs 15 per person
Toilet facilities are available inside the campus
Entry time: 9 AM to 6 PM, about an hour is more than adequate.
No refreshments available, except a few karts by the roadside selling ice cream/juice.
