Aloft Coimbatore Luxury Hotel Review

Aloft Coimbatore is one of the premium hotels in town. I spent 2 nights here and this is my brief review. I had decent stay, no complaints, no major complements. At around 3500-4000 INR per night, it is not really economical or great value for money
A very colourful room phone, lobby area and SPG branding in lift.
Location:
Just a km away from popular Avinashi road, Aloft Coimbatore is around 5 kms from Airport and centrally located.

Breakfast: Complementary with room. Options were decent. Proper induction stoves were used to keep stuff warm (some hotels use name sake burners). On one of the days sapota (chiku) was not ripe enough- asked staff to replace them, got a few medium ripe ones.
Rooms: Neat and clean. I stayed in type of room- it was well equipped. You can get pool view or city view. Both are fairly boring. Pool view from my room looks like below.

Facilities: Pool, Gym, Spa
Airport pickup and drop: Costs 550 + tax, which is 6 times more than what Ola/Uber would cost. (I paid Rs 82 with Ola) So not really worth unless you need the convenience of someone waiting for you with your name card, or if the expenses will be reimbursed by your company. Higher category rooms probably get complimentary airport pickup & drop. My room didn’t.

Good things:
  1. Good quality toothbrush and paste provided.
  2. Loyalty program enrollment was automatic. Aloft is part of SPG group of hotels. Gave my email during check-in and an account was automatically created for me. Experience at Marriott and Radisson Blu were far more complicated in this aspect.
  3. Few restaurants and a tender coconut shop exists within walking distance from Aloft hotel.
Not so good things:
  1. There was no stationery like pen & paper. Even on request they couldn’t provide it. A pen n letter pad is standard stuff in most hotels- convenient if you want to note down few things. At least on demand Aloft should provide these.
  2. Coat Hanger was on top of the bed. Notice the black hook in below pic above the bed. I don’t get the idea- one has to stand on the bed to hang the coat? Can’t it be provided at the corner for more easy access?
  3. Lighting in the corridors were a bit dark to my liking. I would have liked slightly better illuminated corridors. Of course, not a big concern as we don’t have to live in the corridor, just pass through.
  4. Most hotels will have one entry gate and one exit gate- Aloft has only 1 gate for both. Gets little congested at times.
View of Coimbatore from Aloft hotel.
Aloft Coimbatore competes with Zone by the Park, Vibe Coimbatore by GRT etc. Have reviewed Zone already and will be staying at Vibe during my next visit, which is this weekend. Stay tuned.

Update: Aloft and Starwood are now part of Marriott Group.
