Eureka Skydeck 88-View from top of Melbourne

Eureka Skydeck is Melbourne’s tallest building. It is visible from almost anywhere in town. My host showed it to me and suggested I can go up there. Level 88 is open to visitors (About 20 AUD, 10% discount available if you carry a coupon easily available at information centre). I spent a few hours up there enjoying the all round view of Melbourne.

Express elevator takes you to top in about 15 seconds flat. Once in the observation floor (Skydeck) you are free to stay as long as you wish, latest is 10 PM when they close. I went there at about 5.30 and waited till 9 PM so that I could get both day time and night time views. Like all observation decks, souvenir shops, light refreshments and custom photos are sold for a slightly premium price.

Flinders St Railway station- one of the oldest- in day time and night.

The historic MCG at a distance. Separate post coming up on my visit to MCG
What you see below is the war memorial. I couldn't go closer to it due to shortage of time.

As the sun began to set, the scene turned dramatic

Eureka Skydeck closes at 10 PM, last entry by 9.30 PM. Crowd usually increases between 6 to 9 PM.

View of MCG, Yarra river, National Gallery Victoria etc- Day time and night. The tower you see is the art Centre Melbourne. If you notice, high rises in Melbourne are only around CBD (Central Business District) area.

The Edge- for an additional fee, you can go on this glass chamber, which will be ejected out side the building for a few minutes. Standing on a glass floor with nothing below, you can feel as if you are on air-I didn't try that as no photography is allowed inside.
I think Eureka Skydeck 88 is a must visit for those visiting Melbourne.

Update: Meanwhile, my friend Kethan has shared this news that there are many more skyscrappers coming up in Melbourne and Skydeck 88 will lose its No. 1 spot [details]
