Carrick-a-Rede Ropebridge, Belfast, Northern Ireland

Carrick-a-Rede is a scenic location in Northern Ireland, an hour away from Belfast city. Visited it 2 days ago and bringing you all the details of the same, sitting in Belfast Airport while waiting to board for Edinburgh, Scotland

Besides the scenic hills and rocks and ocean, the location is famous for a robe bridge that connects to rocks. Tourists flock here in large numbers to pay 9 pounds and walk across the bridge. This post shares photos and related information about this attraction in Belfast, UK.
Where is Carrick-A-Rede?
Carrick-A-Rede is located towards the northern edge of Ireland. Bridge is located on the Atlantic Ocean connecting mainland with few small but tall rocks across the cliff. It is 60 miles north from Belfast city centre, usually 60-90 mins drive away.

How to reach Carrick-A-Rede ropebridge?
Couldn't locate any public transport to reach here. Tour buses are most economic way to reach here (25 GBP from Belfast for a day trip covering Rope Bridge and Giant Causeway), car rentals/taxi are other options. There're day trips from Dublin as well, covering Carrick A Rede ropeway and Giant Causeway

History of Carrick-A-Rede rope bridge
Said to be originally set up by local fishermen 350 years ago to fish Atlantic Salmon.

How much time to plan at Carrick-A-Rede rope bridge?
1 hour at the minimum, 90 mins preferable. 2-3 hours if you'd like to explore in leisure and can afford the time. Takes about 20 mins of walk to reach the rope bridge, at times a waiting time may be there to get your turn to cross the bridge (only 8 people are allowed at a time max).

If you have the time and interest there's a coastal trail to hike.

Entry fee to Carrick-A-Rede rope bridge?
Walking till the bridge, viewing it from close distance is free. No need for any ticket.
Walking across the bridge to small set of rocks on the ocean needs a ticket-9 Pounds per adult. Unless you fancy walking on it to the otherside, you can save yourself 9 pounds and still manage some good pictures and hike around free to access areas. Once you cross the bridge you get to walk a bit further on the small rocks on a designated trail and head back (probably some 200-300 meters more)

Combo tickets (Carrick-A-Rede + Giant Causeway visitor centre ticket) may be available for 15 Pounds with your coach driver but in my opinion it is not needed. You can buy ticket for Rope Bridge alone if you're keen to walk across. Giant Causeway is free to visit- you can possibly skip visitor centre.

What facilities are available at the Carrick A Rede ropebridge?
Toilets and a small coffee shop is available near the rope bridge car park. No other facilities are available here. There're villages within few miles where more shops/restaurants are available.

Is the Carrick-A-Rede ropebridge safe?
Yes. It is strong, safe and is supervised by two staff members all the time. Just that you will need a strong heart to cross it. Sea is 100 feet below!

Note: Ropeway may close for tourists in case of strong winds/bad weather if felt dangerous for the safety of tourists. Try to visit on a clear day.

My visit experience:
Visited Carrick-A-Rede as part of Giant Causeway day trip from Belfast with McComb's, during which we had some 90 mins stop at Carrick-A-Rede ropeway. I walked all the way and around, but didn't go on top of the bridge. Felt like conserving a few pounds as I didn't find it too exciting to spend another 9 pounds to access the rocks on the other side.
