Sunway Putra: Best hotel with Indian veg breakfast in Kuala Lumpur

Sunway Putra hotel where we spent our last day in Kuala Lumpur. This post is a quick review of the hotel and its facilities. Next day I went down for breakfast, I was surprised to see a wide spread of Vegetarian and South Indian items at the breakfast counter.

The dosa and parotha would get empty within seconds of staff replenishing it... and staff would relentlessly restock within seconds- shows how good they are!
Sunway Putra hotel's breakfast spread includes Dose (Dosai), idli, Paratha, Kesari bath etc along with all side dishes- chutney, sambar, potato curry and so on.

This is significant because not all hotels in Malaysia serve adequate vegetarian, south Indian food during breakfast- at least from among the ones I had experienced. No wonder Sunway Putra hotel had lots of Indian families.

Not that I've tested 100s of hotels Kuala Lumpur has, but from among the one's I had seen, Sunway Putra Hotel had best Indian food. Other hotels I have stayed in Kuala Lumpur are Pullman and Grand Seasons. Proper veg breakfast is crucial to keep you going for the day- most other hotels usually offer only limited veg items- cereals, fruits and bread- we can't really enjoy the breakfast part and will have to spend more on lunch. With proper veg food at Sunway Putra, you can have late lunch or manage with minimum food spend till evening.

Room types in Sunway Putra Hotel, Kuala Lumpur
Sunway putra hotel has rooms starting little under 200 MYR (INR 3300). Below is a quick brief about room types in Sunway Putra Hotel

Superior Rooms
The entry level category, ideal for one or two people, price starting at around 180 MYR per night.
Superior room can't take extra bed and not suitable for family with kids. Of course pricing varies by season, demand-supply, prevailing offers and so on.

Deluxe Rooms
Next category of rooms- a lot more spacious than Superior room and can take an extra bed. Ideal for family with kids. Gets a sofa, working table extra. My stay was in this category of room.

Family Studio
These are corner rooms with a living room with a guest toilet and a separate master bed room area. 72 square meters in space total.

Family Room
Family Room is a bit more spacious than Family Suite, gets a microwave oven, dining table, one mini bed (for 3rd adult or kid) and a master bed.

Junior Suite
Same in size (48 sq meters) but Junior Suite gets a balcony with view of Kuala Lumpur city, bath tub etc.

Two bed room suite and premier suites are other options.

Club Suite
The top floors of the hotel are termed Club Rooms. Club Category guests get an exclusive breakfast/lounge area access in level 34 (Club Lounge), the most spacious rooms (72 sq meters), separate check-in desk, complementary laundry and a host of exclusive features. Club members also get one hour complementary access to a meeting room. Club Suite will set you back by about 400-800 MYR a night, depending on season, demand and prevailing offers, roughly 2x the superior room cost, but very reasonable for the exclusive facilities on offer.

Club floor rooms may also be sold as normal rooms without access to Club Lounge and other priority services. An exclusive elevator for guests reaching floor 30-35 would have been nice in my opinion. Some hotels offer a massage chair in their luxury suites- another thing Sunway Putra management can consider.

Putra hotel also has an event hall on 35th floor that can host about 100 people.

Notes:
1. On booking.com rooms can be booked in various combinations- cheaper non refundable rates, with/without breakfast rates and so on.
2. Entire Sunway Putra hotel is smoking free hotel. There're no smoking rooms. A penalty of 400 MYR applies if you're found to smoke in your room.
3. Somehow the designers of the hotel failed to take advantage of corner rooms. Corner rooms could possibly have windows in two sides, offering a wider view- but the corner rooms in Sunway Putra hotel have only 1 side window like other rooms.

Reaching Sunway Putral Hotel:
From airport, take KLIA Express train or bus to KL Sentral. From KL Sentral, Sunway Putra hotel is about 7 kms away and can be reached using light rail KMuter. Putra World Trade Centre or PWTC station is right next door.
